Supreme Court Sets Execution Date For Mark Christeson
(Jefferson City, MO) — The Missouri Supreme Court has set the execution date for Mark Christeson who was convicted of the 1998 killings of a woman and her two children while stealing the woman’s Ford Bronco. The 37-year-old Christeson’s lethal injection is set for January 31st as several groups try to get a federal appeals court to stop the execution. His execution has been stopped one other time when the U-S Supreme Court halted it in 2014 after ruling his court-appointed attorneys were ineffective because they missed a federal appeals deadline. Five civil rights and legal groups filed an appeal for Christeson in August with the 8th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis. They says he can’t afford to bring in experts to testify about his mental health with the amount of money he has been given for his defense.
