Teen Critical After Attempting to Launch Anvil For Fourth Of July
Willow Springs police say something went wrong when family members tried to fire an anvil into the air during a Fourth of July celebration. A 13-year-old boy suffered critical injuries when the heavy metal object was shattered, sending pieces flying as far as 60 feet. The ambulance took the boy to a Springfield hospital after he was hit by a piece of that anvil. Police say the explosion meant to launch the anvil went off too soon. The accident happened on private property next to the Willow Springs Municipal Airport.
