Nixon Vetos Education Funding Limits Bill

Governor Jay Nixon has vetoed a proposal to rein in the amount of money lawmakers aim to provide to K-through-12 schools. Nixon vetoed the bill Wednesday, which would set limits on what lawmakers consider adequate school funding. Planned basic aid for K-through-12 schools next fiscal year falls more than 400-million dollars short of funding goals. Under the proposal, it would be about 54-million dollars short. Supporters say a cap will make it more feasible to meet target funding. House members supporting the measure suggest that an attempt will be made to override the governor’s veto.
