MoDOT Tells Campaigns To Stop Putting Signs in Right Of Way

The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking political campaigns to quit putting their signs on roadsides and near intersections. They obstruct drivers’ vision and can be confusing at construction sites. The process of placing those signs can be dangerous, too, when the person doing the work lacks the right safety equipment or parks a vehicle improperly while posting the signs. Agency heads say some campaigns intentionally place their signs on the right-of-way a few days before the election, knowing state crews will remove them.
