Governor Nixon Waives DNR Debris Disposal Regulations
Governor Jay Nixon has signed an executive order to let the Missouri Department of Natural Resources temporarily waive state regulations on debris and trash disposal. Nixon assigned the Missouri National Guard to lead what is being called “Operation Recovery.” Late December flooding along the Meramec, Bourbeause and Mississippi rivers have left an estimated 500-thousands tons of debris behind. For now, focus is on damage assessments. Nixon says it may be a hard decision for some people to return to flood-prone areas, but he says he would hesitate to put limits on development along river-front properties.
