Plato Man Dies in Crash South of Roby

A Plato man died this weekend in a crash on Route-M, south of Roby. At about 2AM Sunday morning, 38-year-old Toby Mathes was driving east on Route-M when he failed to negotiate a curve a ran off the right side of the roadway, struck and embankment. The Highway Patrol and Texas County Sheriff report that none of the occupants of Mathes’s vehicle were wearing their seatbelts. Mathes and another passenger were ejected during the crash. 32-year-old Daniel Stephens was seriously injured and 35-year-old Donna Hunter had moderate injuries, both were transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital.
